Who Are We?
In Quebec, more than 870,000 people need food assistance. Every month.
Since 1988, Food Banks of Quebec, a not-for-profit organization, has played a key role in feeding them. Our strength? We are at the head of a great provincial network!
Our 34 independent regional members serve nearly 1,300 local community organizations, who handle 2.6 million requests for food assistance every month.

What we do
National-Provincial Sharing System (NPSS)
Our organization solicits food donations from across Quebec and ensures they are shared equitably among the Moisson, according to regional needs and realities. Thanks to various programs and production campaigns dedicated to Food Banks of Quebec network, these food donations come from various sectors of the agro-industry, whether from food producers, wholesalers or processors.
Supermarket Recovery Program (SRP)
The SRP is the first initiative of its kind in Canada. With the collaboration of food retailers, the SRP provides a unique and sustainable solution to the problems of food waste and food insecurity. In concrete terms, it involves recovering unsold food from supermarkets (Loblaw, METRO and Sobeys banners) to feed people in need!
Since 2017, our organization has been coordinating the SRP deployment across the province with the essential collaboration of our Moisson and Associate members. The SRP is crucial to food-assistance organizations, as it greatly improves the quantity and variety of food (fresh produce, meats) offered to beneficiaries.
Representation of members’ interests and expertise in food assistance
We strive to make the realities of food insecurity and food assistance in Quebec better known to governments, media, and the public. We listen to the needs and issues of our members and channel their voices. We base our efforts on actual studies, notably the Hunger Count we produce every year, as well as university research, which we also support.
Infrastructures Program
Our financial assistance program for the development of storage infrastructures, launched in 2021, is supported and funded by the Ministère de l’Agriculture, des Pêcheries et de l’Alimentation du Québec (MAPAQ). This program enables our members to carry out projects aimed at purchasing equipment and improving the network’s storage infrastructures.
Thanks to this major funding, our members are able to make investments that are essential to the continuity and improved efficiency of their operations and services, in order to better meet the ever-growing needs of their communities.
