{"id":7207,"date":"2023-04-05T17:17:48","date_gmt":"2023-04-05T21:17:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/banquesalimentaires.org\/?p=7207"},"modified":"2023-04-05T17:17:48","modified_gmt":"2023-04-05T21:17:48","slug":"from-april-6-to-12-every-saq-customer-and-all-quebecers-are-encouraged-to-support-our-cause","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/banquesalimentaires.org\/en\/from-april-6-to-12-every-saq-customer-and-all-quebecers-are-encouraged-to-support-our-cause\/","title":{"rendered":"From April 6 to 12, every SAQ customer and all Quebecers are encouraged to support our cause"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In 2022, we responded to a record-setting demand: <strong>2.2 million of food aid requests in a single month,<\/strong> a first in our history.<\/p>\n<p><strong>62% of member organizations reported food shortages<\/strong> at their usual supply sources, forcing most to purchase supplies. <strong>Never before have requests for food assistance reached such levels.<\/strong> What\u2019s more, due to the current economic uncertainty, demand is almost certain to continue growing.<\/p>\n<p>This unprecedented pressure on our network is being experienced across Quebec. The situation is unique: rising demand, an inflation-driven spike in operating costs, problems sourcing foodstuffs in sufficient quantities and a shortage of labour and volunteers, among other things.<\/p>\n<p>That is why, in the run-up to the long Easter weekend, when many Quebec families will unfortunately not have the opportunity to sit down to a table full of food, the Soci\u00e9t\u00e9 des alcools du Qu\u00e9bec (SAQ) is again asking its customers to show their solidarity and generosity.<\/p>\n<p>Specifically, <strong>from April 6 to 12 inclusive, every SAQ customer and all Quebecers are encouraged to support the cause in any of our some 400 stores and online.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Different simple ways to help:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Make a donation at the checkout counter of an SAQ store.<\/li>\n<li>Buy a Quebec product: the equivalent of one meal will be donated to people in need.<\/li>\n<li>And, as always, buy an SAQ wrapping product because part of the proceeds goes directly to our network.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3>A cause embraced by SAQ employees across Quebec<\/h3>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;For 14 years now, our employees have been taking this cause to our customers in every region of Quebec. Our in-store teams challenge other teams to outraise them while many employees get involved locally and do volunteer work in food assistance organizations. This generosity at the SAQ reflects our deep values.&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>\u2014 Catherine Dagenais, President and Chief Executive Officer of the SAQ<br \/>\n&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3>Essential help<\/h3>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cWe\u2019ve said it often since the start of the pandemic: food assistance organizations play a vital role in strengthening our social safety net. That\u2019s especially true during this time of high inflation, which makes even more Quebecers vulnerable. And that is why we\u2019re delighted to be able to count on committed partners like the SAQ and its employees and customers, who provide invaluable support whatever form their contribution takes.
