The SAQ today presented a total of $815,978 to the Food Banks of Quebec (FBQ) network to provide assistance to thousands of Quebecers whose holidays are not a time of plenty or celebration.
Several initiatives were put in place between December 7 and 13 and all bore fruit. During the period, customers and Quebecers were encouraged to make a donation at the checkout counter in any of the SAQ’s some 400 stores or online. Buying an SAQ-branded wrapping product was another way to contribute, as part of the proceeds from the sale goes directly to the FBQ.
Aware of the issue, some of the SAQ’s partners also became involved. This meant that when any of the 16 participating products was purchased during the period, the equivalent of a meal was donated to the FBQ.
“First, I want to offer my sincere thanks to all the SAQ’s front-line employees, including our store colleagues, for their involvement,” said Jacques Farcy, President and Chief Executive Officer of the SAQ. “They are the lead ambassadors for our major corporate cause. Many thanks, too, to the customers who, once again, so generously answered our call. We can be proud of our ongoing support for Food Banks of Quebec and its mission, especially at a time when requests for assistance are so high.”
